Joe Herbertson

Dr Joe Herbertson AM is a founder and Director of The Crucible Group and a Conjoint Professor, Environment and Life Sciences, at the University of Newcastle.

Joe formerly ran BHP’s corporate research laboratories and was GM Research BHP Steel. He subsequently became an international advisor on sustainability driven innovation. He combines a capacity for strategic thinking with a practical focus on science and technology innovation in response to the deep economic and ecological challenges humanity faces in Australia and globally.

The Crucible Group has taken its proprietary Continuous Biomass Converter technology from a fundamental idea to commercialisation. The CBC creates valuable products contributing to the sustainable industrial use of carbon, regenerative agriculture and CO 2 drawdown from the atmosphere.

Joe was the leader of the Strategic Framework team within Safe Climate Australia.
