CLIMATE & GLOBAL SECURITY CONSEQUENCES

Senior defence and security officials now provide a stark warning that climate change represents an unprecedented, existential security threat, undermining the stability of geophysical planetary systems. The implications stretch across the full spectrum of human endeavour: from individuals and communities to the nation-state, and regional and international relations.

Australia sits in one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world. The increasing strain on our preparedness and capacity to respond to current impacts and future threats, both on the home front and in the region, is severely testing our limits as a nation.

An unlikely group of climate advocates explores the local and regional risks that now confront Australia unless urgent steps to deal with the climate emergency are forged.

Due to the recent increase in COVID risk this forum will be live streamed only. No in-person attendance will be permitted. Please use the live stream link for the event.

“After nuclear war, human-induced global warming is the greatest threat to human life on the planet. Today’s 7.5 billion human beings are already the most predatory species that ever existed, yet the global population has yet to peak and may reach 10 billion people, with dire implications absent a fundamental change in human behaviour.“

“I think it’s the defining threat of this century. I can’t think of any other threat that is transforming the planet on this level or scale. It’s such a ubiquitous threat”
